The Zoo
Founded in 1931 by George Mottershead. Chester Zoo is now the one of the foremost Zoos in Europe. Growing from it's original 9 acres around Oakfield House. The attraction now occupies over 111 acres. It houses Europes largest colony of chimpanzees. And has active breeding programs for many endangered species.
The Queen at Chester Zoo
As part of her Diamond Jubilee tour of Britain the Queen made a fleeting visit to Chester Zoo where she officially opened the new entrance gates, part of the "Diamond Jubilee Quarter".
Dinosaurs at Chester Zoo
Throuighout the summer chester Zoo has played host to a number of animatronic Dinosaurs. Scattered around the Islands in Danger area.
Elephant Sculpture in Town Hall Square
Chester Zoo has donated a 1metre high bronze statue of a calf elephant to Chester. The sculpture by Annette Yarrow is simmilar to the one standing near the Zoo's entrance and which attracts a lot of children to it's back.

Chester Zoo Zulu Dancers
throughout August Chester Zoo has played host to a troup of dancers from KwaZulu Natal, The Mighty Zulu Nation Theatre Company. In the past they have toured Britain, Russia, Italy, France,Germany and South Africa with a mixture of traditional Zulu dance and music. This is not the first time they have appeared at Chester Zoo. Their program is a great crowd puller with pulsating drums, dance and acrobatics.
The Cathedral
Chester Cathedral stands within the north eastern quarter. Much of the decoration dates from 19th century renovations. There has been a church on the site since the 10th century.
