Chester Zoo Photographs
Just added to the Gallery section of this web site is an album of Photographs of Chester Zoo. The collection is meant to portray something of the experience that is Chester Zoo as well as showing some of the animals and vegetation that is on display.
Over the last few years Chester Zoo has undergone a transformation. Many new, improved, spacious enclosures have been created for the animals. These feature sizeable ares with dense planting of trees and shrubs. It's therefore possible to walk around parts of the zoo and see very little. A certain amount pf patience is therefore required in order to see some of the more shy creatures. Not so much of a problem with the Chimpanzees who appear to enjoy watching the human inhabitants as much as the humans enjoy watching the chimpanzees.
As ever there is a debate about the morality of zoos but Chester is making an increasingly succesful effort to make the living conditions as comodious and pleasurable as possible. The Zoo has also greatly improved the educational experience for the visitor and there are a host of information points and educational activities for the young to get involved.
As a visitor experience Chester Zoo is rated amongst the top 14 Zoos in the world. It's certainly an all day experience, there is so much to see. The modern Zoo has to reconsile the needs of it's visitors, who after all are it's livelyhood, and the needs of conservation and animal welfare. Becasue of this it is sometimes necessary to visit some of the enclosures more than once before you actually get to see anything.
