Chester Marathon
The first ever Chester Marathon took place on the spring bank holiday, May 31st 2010. Following a route that took runners along the pathway that now covers the track bed of the old Mickel Trafford to Hawarden Bridge railway. With a loop at the Mickle Trafford/Guilden Sutton end and another around the Corus Steel works at the other. Start and finish lines were at Chester Rugby Club in Hare Lane, Littleton, Chester. The finish being in front of the clubs stand. The majority of the route being totally traffic free and largely in a rural setting.
First home and leader over most of the course was Julian Macdonald from Chester Triathlon Club in 2hrs 33minutes 5seconds. First female runner was Jenni Muston from Charnwood Athletics Club in 3hrs 0minutes 44seconds. For full results follow the link at the bottom of the page.
With drink stations roughly every 2.5 miles. This set of Chester Marathon Photos starts at the Limewoods playing filelds off Kingsway in Chester. The second drink station on the way out and 4.5 miles from the start/finish line. Just as the station is being set up for the race to arrive some 40 minutes later.
The picture set then moves to the finish line within the Chester Rugby Club to catch the arrival of the first runner and then briefly back to the Limewoods drink station some 1hr and 40minutes later to see more runners as they continue to battle the journey back along the Greenway 22 miles into their marathon just over 4 miles to go. And as many entrants have noted the last short distance to the rugby club is gently, but cruelly, uphill.
